Education

The education sector is under continual pressure to ensure value for money so reducing energy bills is of prime importance. Educational facilities are occupied for fixed periods (for example, one hour lessons) within scheduled times with planned extra-curricular out-of-hours uses so automatic time and occupancy-related control are appropriate: such buildings typically enjoy high levels of natural light so daylight-linked switching and dimming is also effective.

With the increased use of IT technology within classrooms the ability to adjust lighting levels through dimming is important and presence detection is typically combined with teacher control from a switch or hand-held transmitter. Central management and monitoring of multiple sites from as central location can also be beneficial.

Key system features within educational projects include:

  • Architectural dimming and scene setting (within lecture rooms and auditoria)
  • Daylight linking
  • Emergency lighting test and monitoring
  • Individual circuit control
  • Individual luminaire control
  • Manual infra-red control
  • Movement/Presence detection
  • Solar control of external lighting
  • Time scheduling
